Track 7: Study and work area UB

Students come to study in the University Library for different reasons. For one, all necessary information resources are on location. Another is that one can flee distractions from roommates, the television, and the refrigerator.

You have already seen the various work stations in the building during your tour. Some prefer to meet for collaborative work in a group study room or at a table by the staircase. Others favour the classic reading room area with rows of tables which are present on every floor. Those who like absolute quiet and solitude seek out one of the hidden, single workplaces on the third floor. Incidentally, this is where one has the best view of the countryside.

As it should be in a library, we of course offer the complete infrastructure that is necessary for work. The entire building is provided with wifi. As a student you can easily log in with your s-code (s-Kennung), and your net-password. At the majority of the work stations you can also use a cable to connect to the Internet. If you don't bring your own laptop, you can use our computers in the foyer or reading rooms. As a member of the Justus Liebig University you have access to parts of the MS-Office package there.

There are more programs installed on the computers in the computer room on the ground floor and in the computer working rooms of the university’s IT service centre on the second floor. You have access to our online media, which are e-books, electronic journals and databases, at our research computers or directly via wifi. This also works from home. True to the motto “well copied is half studied”, you will find copy machines on every floor with which you can make copies, scan, or print. You acquire copy machine credit at the two automated terminals located in front of the computer room on the ground floor. If you wish to scan numerous pages, we recommend, above all, the book scanner on the third floor. There it is easier to position and leaf through books. Simply try it out. You can then save the scans to your USB flash drive. Scanning is, by the way, free of charge.

For your breaks the cUBar is the right place. In our cafeteria you can get hot and cold wake-ups, sweets, and small snacks. Perhaps you'll even secure a comfortable armchair and meet your roommates for an enjoyable pause in front of the big TV.
