Learning Strategies
What are the benefits of structuring and visualisation?

As in the case of the activation of pre-existing knowledge, structuring and visualisation are basic strategies that can make learning easier in a variety of ways. A large number of methods are available, with the following examples selected for presentation in this module:
Chunking
Mind Maps
Concept Maps

Structuring & Visualisation - How and why
All methods of structuring and visualisation essentially pursue the same objectives:
It also offers another benefit: During the arrangement, structuring and visualisation of the learning content the learner simultaneously “pre-learns” and enhances their depth of processing. This supports the expansion of the semantic network in their brain and ensures that potential problems are identified – and dealt with – at the earliest possible stage.
- The streamlining of learning content down to the most important aspects, thus lending greater clarity to an otherwise potentially overwhelming amount of information.
- The selection of headings and structures that serve as retrieval cues.
