An Overview of the Electronic Systems for Students of Justus Liebig University Giessen
Account (user name and password)
Your account consists of your user name and the corresponding password. They are the key access data to important online services of JLU (see overview of electronic services).
How do I get my account?
After enrolment, you can view your matriculation number in the GUDE portal. This is the first important step in activating your account. You will also receive an e-mail within approx. 24 hours with detailed instructions on how to activate your account to the e-mail address you provided when you applied or enrolled. This e-mail has the subject ‘Aktivieren Sie bitte Ihren JLU-Account / Please activate your JLU-Account’ and comes from the address iam@uni-giessen.de.
If in doubt, please also check your spam mailbox if you cannot find a corresponding e-mail in your inbox after enrolment.
Please follow the instructions in the e-mail to activate your account and receive your user name and set a password. As soon as you have successfully activated your account, you will also receive confirmation of this by e-mail.
What does my account look like? What do I need to know about my password?
The user name usually starts with a "j_" followed by a combination of letters and numbers. You set the password yourself when you activated the account.
The password can and should be changed at the latest if it is suspected that someone else may have obtained the password. This can be done in the self-service portal IAM. You should also be sure to enter the security questions there so that you can set a new password if you have forgotten the old one. You will find further information on this in the email confirming the activation of your account.
Please note that some systems will “know” the new password only at the beginning of the next full hour. In this case, the old password will keep its validity until then.
