Theoretical background to breaks

You can / or must structure your learning day at home completely by yourself.
Besides the question of WHEN you do what, it is also important to look at when you do NOT work.

So let's start our module with the topic of breaks.

Just like work phases, breaks are also an elementary part of working time. Breaks support your learning efforts and contribute to learning success.
In addition, our brain continues to work during a break, which thus contributes to storing information in long-term memory.

What is SusiStress’ attitude to breaks?

“I always feel guilty when I take a break.
I then have the feeling
that breaks are lost time.”

It is helpful to keep in mind what our human performance curve looks like. After 45 minutes of working time, the performance level already drops noticeably. Therefore, it is better to take a break then instead of continuing with one’s work.

If this interests you, you can take another look at an illustration of our performance curve here:

How do you feel about regular breaks?
Do you tend to take too many and too long breaks or do you tend to work too long at a stretch and then take too few breaks?
