At this point in my essay-writing process, I would consider it useful to rouse the reader's interest a little more by informing them why I think that my topic is so important that I write about it.

The topic of keeping and killing animals for food has been an important subject in moral philosophy and politics. What is striking is that animals are still seen as beings morally inferior to humans, and it is argued that this was a reason why we could kill them. We will discuss this idea in more detail.
