Using BigBlueButton

Presenting in BigBlueButton

Roles in a room: Presenter and Moderator
If the status "presenter" was granted to you by a moderator, you can use the following functions:
  • “Upload a presentation”
  • “Share an external video”
  • Switch between the slides of a presentation
As a moderator, you can manage the rights of other participants and other moderators. For example, you can mute and unmute participants, allow them to share their screen or grant them the presenter status. Moderators can be recognized by the square shape in the participant list. The status presenter is portrayed by a small dot icon next to their name.

As a teacher or as the organizer of the conference, you should always have the moderator status!

Integrating your own presentation and sharing external videos
You do not have to show external videos or your presentation with the screen sharing option. You can use the "Action"-button in the bottom left of your screen. The button is marked by a white "plus"-symbol. In this way, you can guarantee better quality for the media that you want to share with your participants.

Tips:
If you save your presentation in the PDF-format before uploading it, the risk of being surprised by the formatting changes made by BBB will be reduced.

If you want to use the multi-user whiteboard, it is advisable to include a white slide at a suitable place in the presentation for further interactions with the drawing tools.

Please note that there is no function to export the commented/edited presentation. Please screenshot the slides when necessary.

Weblinks cannot be clicked on in the uploaded presentation. When this is necessary, please use the “Shared Notes” or the Puclic Chat to share the link.

Sharing your own screen (not available for tablets or smartphones)
You can show applications of your own device by using the screen-sharing function. For example, you can show software functions or animations using this feature.

Written Communication and Documentation
You can use the “Public Chat” for announcements, for interaction with conference participants or for sharing external weblinks. Messages that are posted in the Public Chat will be visible for all participants.

To start a private chat with individual participants, click on the person’s name in the participants-list.

The “Shared Notes” function is well suited for protocols or other forms of documentation.  The shared notes-feature as well as the public chat can be used to share clickable links.
