E-Lecture

Lecture recordings offer students the opportunity to attend courses via the Internet at short notice if this was not possible, for example, due to module overlaps. The HRZ is responsible for the recording. This service has become so popular in the meantime that planning must start early.

Further information is available under the website of the lecture recording team (the website is available only in german but the offer is available for all teaching stuff at JLU)

The following criteria decide on the grant of the recording:
- Overlaps with other compulsory events
- Spatial shortage
- High number of participants in the lecture

Publication of the recording
Decide on the form of publication before you start recording. The video can be provided
- visible on a public platform for the entire Internet (e.g. OpenLecture, public ILIAS, YouTube) or
- in a protected course of the learning platform (e.g. ILIAS, Stud.IP).
Depending on the form of publication, third-party materials may be used to some degree in the course. While only the right of citation (§ 51 UrhG) applies when material is made available to the public, additional material may be added to restricted pages within the scope of § 60a UrhG.

If the material is made available to the public, it is advisable to decide whether the video is supposed to be made available to other teachers and students for further use, if necessary editing, as an Open Educational Resource in the sense of the Open Access idea. In this case, the use of one of the Creative Commons licenses is suitable for labelling.

Use of third-party materials
As with any other course, care must be taken to ensure that third-party materials are used in a recorded lecture without violating the rights of third parties. In the same way, the standards of scientific work with regard to citation and source information apply here.

Information for students
Inform participants of the course in advance that the course will be recorded, what will be recorded, how it will be published, and that technical errors may occur. Make it clear that students will not be recorded so that participants do not stay away from the event out of concern for privacy. Students can only be recorded in exceptional cases if they have given their consent in written and voluntary form in advance. This is not possible if the course in question requires an examination, as in this case the voluntariness can be doubted...

Notification for teachers
The teachers as clients and originators of the recording decide about the publication of the videos. He or she can at any time request that the videos be removed from the platform and/or deleted.
In the case of a change of university, the videos can be taken along by the teachers.
