Track 6: Reading room, third floor

If you take the staircase to the third floor don't forgo a glimpse above to the dome. Careful, don't stumble.

To the right behind the glass door begins the reading room. Research stations surrounded by small, white cabinets are provided in the entrance area. These cabinets contain our microfilms and microfiche. With special machines, you can read, scan, or print archived daily newspapers, for example. Interested? Then ask our colleagues about it at the information desk.

Let’s continue through the glass door to the right. You don’t want to enter the silent working space in front of you, but turn right before the reading places and go straight forward towards the door on the opposite wall. You can now exit the reading room through the door to find yourself once again in the open shelf area. If you look around and follow the corridor to the left you will perhaps notice that the books here have various, and sometimes coloured, shelfmarks. These books were previously found in subject-specific libraries and the stocks were brought together here. With these similarly-sounding shelfmarks the devil is in the details. If, for example, you are looking for a FH-psy shelfmark, you should not search through the shelf on which FH-Psych is located.

You can now see the doorway to the staircase. Incidentally, just before the doors leading there, several examples of course reserves are to be seen. Teaching staff have collections of literature here for their current seminars. These are available for copying, scanning, or reading and can therefore not be borrowed. In the case that there's a course reserve for your subject-area in the UB, it will likewise be found in the designated subject's area.

You have once again arrived at the staircase and have obtained a view of our floors. If you're curious about the study and work area UB, then please select track 7.
