Track 9: Interlibrary loans

You need literature that isn't available in the JLU library system? Neither printed, nor online? Then it's best to use interlibrary loans.

Through interlibrary loans you can receive books, CDs, or copies of journal articles from other German libraries. The easiest way is to order online. Each interlibrary loan order costs one Euro and 50 cents. That is surely more economical than purchasing the book. But it also means you have to pay a certain amount before ordering. You can do this during the cash desk opening hours or via cashless payment at the automated pay station on the first floor. You find the pay station on the left side of the entrance to the computer lab. Choose the shop on the display and then choose “interlibrary loan credit“. (Fernleihguthaben). You can now pay any amount with your EC card – depending on how many interlibrary loans you need. After that you receive a voucher that you have to hand in at the circulation desk. Here they will book it on your interlibrary loan account and you can start ordering. Available for order are books or single articles from a book or a magazine. They have to be not available at the JLU. Your order should be ready to be picked up at the circulation desk within two or three weeks.

If it needs to go more rapidly, there are also commercial delivery services available. These will send the ordered books and articles directly to your home. Though, you have to pay considerably more for them. A delivery service frequently used is Subito.

There is one more option to find literature that is not available at the JLU: In case you cannot find a document here that, for example, is important for your studies, you are welcome to suggest that we procure it. Amongst other methods, that functions quite easily on our website. There, you will also find all the information about interlibrary loans. Naturally, we will happily help you further at the information desks.
