Foundation of Argumentation

Target group:	Open to all students and professionals seeking to improve their argumentation knowledge and abilities.
Objectives:	By successfully completing this autonomous module you gain knowledge of rhetorical argumentation theory and learn techniques for arguing effectively. Module content includes: Chapter 1 illuminates aspects and types of dialogue, their subdivisions and functions, allowing you to recognize and catalogue them in your everyday communication. Chapter 2 deals with the definitions, usage, objectives of and structural options for rhetorical argumentation, also describing logical argumentation patterns as exercises for personal practice. In chapter 3 we introduce the rule of five, its functions and variations. Exercises enable you to allocate the rule of five variations and embed them in your practice. Concluding with chapter 4, you can follow a talk show independently, generating an argumentation analysis. Here, you school your observation and analysis abilities for everyday usage.
Total module duration:	Approximately 4 hours Module duration structure: Chapter 1: Dialogue and dialogue categories: approx. 30 min. Chapter 2: Argumentation: approx. 60 min. Chapter 3: Rule of five and rule of five variations: approx. 60 min. Chapter 4: Concluding assignment – Argumentation analysis: approx. 90 min.
