Track 3: The Staircase

You are now standing on the stairs that lead to the reading rooms on the second and third floors. Of course, you can also use the elevator. On the wall across from the stairs you will find information about the history of Giessen's library facilities. Are you from Giessen? Then perhaps you recognize the building in the middle picture. It shows the old UB on Bismarck street. Its architecture resembles an open book. The impressive library in the top picture existed there on Bismarck street until shortly before the war's end. The stone owl from the roof ridge is practically the only thing left of it.

If you follow the stairs to the second floor, you will immediately notice how lively the area is. Above all, it is a large study room: As with everywhere in the library, you can log on to the internet with your laptops or work with your study groups without disturbing others while working. Additionally, you will find copy machines on each floor of the staircase that can also scan and print. By the way, the entrances to the washrooms are located to the left of the elevator on each floor. In case you loose your way, there are also floor plans situated next to the staircase. You will see them directly in front of the stairs. If you are on the second floor standing before the floor plan and look to your right, you will see the door to the reading room. Which subject materials are found here is indicated on the subject overviews on the posts in front of the entrance. Track 4 will guide you through the reading room.
