Personal data (1/2)

This is all data that can be associated with a person: e.g. names, e-mail addresses, personal characteristics, photos, place of residence or birth, the car a person drives, religious affiliation or eye colour.
Why is this data extra protected?
All citizens have the right to decide for themselves on the disclosure and use of their personal data. This right to informational self-determination is a fundamental right. The right to informational self-determination is specified in Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG).
Under what circumstances may personal data be processed?
Either there is a legal norm which permits the use or one needs the consent of the persons concerned. An example of the former is the treatment of personal data within a contractual relationship.
When do personal data arise in educational events?
Before, during and after educational events: For example, postal addresses are recorded electronically, e-mails sent, participation lists created and, if necessary, services used on the Internet.
